The Shedd Institute welcomes Bluegrass trio Edgar Meyer, Mike Marshall & George Meyer Bluegrass Trio to Jaqua Concert Hall Wednesday, February 4th.
We first met Mike Marshall in 2000 when he and Darol Anger joined our 2nd annual Twin Rivers Folklife Festival out at Cuthbert American Fiddle Masters, followed by several other excellent appearances by the duo over the next several years for concerts at SEHS and at The Shedd when we finally moved in. We met Edgar Meyer when, at Mike's suggestion, we booked Meyer & Marshall for a stunning evening in 2002 at Beall Concert Hall. In the 23-years since we've had Edgar out regularly (most recently this past fall with Tessa Lark & Joshua Roman), but Mike only a couple of times (in '07 for an evening of choro and in 2014 for an intense mandolin breakdown with Chris Thile) and not again with Edgar. So we are deeply stoked to have them back together, and it's a pleasure to welcome George Meyer out for the first time.
The official description of the project: "Edgar Meyer and Mike Marshall have been playing music together for twenty years. Over these past two decades, they have developed a fully realized concept of the mandolin/bass duo. Edgar and Mike present a repertoire that spans the globe; from Bach duets to Brazilian choros, and from funky original pieces of their own twisted fiddle tunes."
We'd just say it's not to be missed.
